Featured Player No9 - Liam Bradley

1. Liam, what has been your greatest moment at Riccall thus far?
I’ve had many to be honest. My debut at 15 for the first team. I played 45 minutes for the Reserves away at T&L and I scored the winner from Right Back in a 3-2 win. I had Micky Barnett in my back pocket. Anyway it was the start of the season the following Saturday down at the Sportsfield and Steve Butcher and Andy Phillips were away on holiday and Billy needed a right back and I got the nod. We got promoted that season and the following one although I featured less that year. I have had many more great moments with this club including promotion from Division 2.
2. And your worst to date?
Blowing the Division 2 title in 2006 when we had been the best team in that division by far that season. We lost it that year the others didn’t win it.
3. What are your dreams and aspirations with the club?
My long term aim / dream is for the club to develop over the next few years and achieve Charter Standard recognition and to have its own Junior Section. On the field I would have to say to get back into the premier division, stay there and to win it along with many other trophies.
4. What are your predictions for the coming season?
I did hope at the beginning of the season for promotion back to the Premier division where we belong and the County Cup. Both are still achievable so let’s hope we can do it, were in the quarter finals so it’s a start.
5. Who do you see as our biggest rivals and competition for the coming season?
Wiberfoss and Tadcaster Albion. Tadcaster were very unlucky not to come up with us from Division 2. Both us and them were a better team than the one that won it. Wilberfoss are a good well organised side and they just seem to have that edge over us despite some tight games. We’ve had a poor run but the truth is we should be beating all of the others without a doubt.
6. Who would be your room mate at the club and why?
Northern. Simply because he is tidy like me. I can’t stand mess! Shared with him on holiday a couple of times and it just works for me. I’ve also shared with Cheesy and Kirk on one which was painful and a real eye opener!!!!
7. What is your favourite pre-match meal?
Beans on Toast or last night’s Indian if I didn’t finish it off.
8. Who is the worst dressed person at the club?
I’m surprised I haven’t been mentioned more to be honest but I’m going to go with Minto.
9. Who as the worst hairdo at the club?
Again I thought I might get a few more mentions but I’m going to say Minto.
10. What do you feel you bring to the club?
Hardwork! I often give too much to the club and I have known myself to go to bed on a night and not sleep because I need to do this for the club or I haven’t done something that needed doing and it’s on my mind. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.
11. What is your nickname and why?
I have quite a few of them actually. AP and Roy starting calling me Fleapit and Fliam years ago for some reason and its just stuck. Cheesy likes to call me Gingereye and Buggy calls me Pop for obvious reasons. Then there are the more obvious Bradders and Gaffer.
12. Who are your best mates at the club?
AP; Wev; and JK. I have lots of really good mates at the club though. Buggy before he left.
13. Of all the players and staff in the United squad, who do you think is the most influential?
Jez obviously is the captain and he leads by example but there are also the likes of Mick Carmody; Trev Robinson and Pete Collier, the more senior members of the squad who are very good to have around and they are influential players who do a lot of talking and organising on the field.
14. Best player you've played with and why?
Paul Brough Jones! No doubt. The man was special! What a privilege it
was to play in the same side as this guy. Could use both feet equally as good, great in the air, fast, strong, good at communicating, etc etc, no real downside to his game.
15. Worst player you've played with and why?
1 or 2 contenders! Irish Pete, Shilkey, Fergie. There the main ones. Then there’s Placid and Chris Howard from Barlby.
16. What's your worst football "shout out" on the pitch? And who generally uses it?
Anything Cheesy shouts simply because he screams it when your trying to calm the lads down a bit.
17. What's your favourite football "shout out" on the pitch? And who generally uses it?
“Get off it” Hollis always said this. It makes me chuckle when I think about it these days but when I first started out with Riccall he would say it and I did it and I was scared of him.
18. You've been at the club 9 years now, how do you think the club and team compare to that of when you joined all those years ago?
Well it’s the same really. A group of lads that want to win badly. There is a lot of vision at this club and hopefully it will all be achieved. There was the decline following promotion into the premier division back in 2000 but we’ve come back stronger than ever before and we will get back there.
19. The lads have had some legendary nights out in the past, of all of them, which is the most memorable? And talk us through the funniest thing you've seen or heard on one of them.
Far too many to go on about, I think. We are a good club for this sort of thing. Great team morale and spirit! Straight off the pitch and win, lose or draw the lads are in the bar drinking, having a chat and a laugh and more often than not that lasts deep into the night. Just a great crack!
20. Who is the most underrated player at the club and why?
This is a tough question! I would have to say……….ermmmm…….Jez. Everyone rates Jez and look up to him with him being the skipper but I don’t think people quite see exactly how good he is and how important he is to the side. Never flash, what he does on the pitch often goes un-noticed and that’s why I’ve said Jez. He does the untidy and often messy things like breaking up play.
21. Who do you support?
Spent all my life a Leeds fan. Me and Buggy try and go to as many games as humanly possible but due to our football commitments it’s difficult. We go everywhere with them though home or away if we haven’t got a game we go. Before Riccall I was a season ticket holder for years and even went to Madrid and Rome in the Champions league with them.

Winning the 1st division and getting promoted to the premier division.

Getting relegated to 2nd division as player/manager

For both teams to compete at the highest level possible

I would like to think both teams could win promotion

Not too sure there aren’t going to be many easy games for both teams

Probably buggy , just to annoy him

Better than the team in 96 but not as good as the team that won the league in 2001 although it has potential to be.

1. Sean, what has been your greatest moment at Riccall thus far?
Getting promoted with the reserves and winning the East Riding Qualifying Cup last season, I best mention captaining the lads to more than 10 games undefeated, an honour.
2. And your worst to date?
First game back at the club versus Haxby last season.....played centre half enough said!
3. What are your dreams and aspirations with the club?
Obviously to cement a place with the first team squad which I am working hard on but one step at a time. It would be very nice to get back to back promotion with the reserves this season; we definitely have the quality there to do it.
4. What are your predictions for the coming season?
1st Team - 3rd or 4th and the Reserves - 2nd place finish in the league

The club is a lot stronger physically and financially. You’ve done very well Liam! There are two very strong sides with a lot of quality who can challenge to be the best in the York area. The shower club has become stronger as well...I believe where looking at more than 10 members now, is this correct Dean?

1. Matty, what has been your greatest moment at Riccall thus far?
Not had to many great moments personally but scoring on my debut was pretty cool even though id just missed an open goal only 5 minutes earlier!
2. And your worst to date?
Getting relegated with the reserve's a couple of years back
3. What are your predictions for the coming season?
Fingers crossed, promotion I believe we have the squad to make that leap and same goes for the reserves
4. Who do you see as our biggest rivals and competition for the coming season?
I think there are a lot of teams on an even par this season but if I had to pick one it would be Wilberfoss
5. Who would be your room mate at the club and why?
I would have said Dean Westwood a few months ago but there was an incident in London in July where he did something unforgivable but to be honest in the interest of player safety I think we should all stop in one big room because if there is a problem with the ceiling I can fix it. Dean can sleep in the bath though.

Well I never really lit up the pitch with my playing skills but as a coach I bring a good tactical knowledge and come winter time I’ll look the part with my Jose Mourinho style coat and scarf!

I’ve grown up with Dean, Cheesy, Jez, Stan, Andy, Shary and a few others so there my closest friend but I think I get on with everyone at the club, even you Liam!

I can’t really pick one but Jez and Andy are both senior players and a lot of the other players look to them on the pitch when things aren’t going well. Dean Westwood is a massive influence in the changing room and I've been very impressed with Mick C since he has come back, his character both on and off the pitch has been a massive plus this year

The team I joined was in decline and had a very unsettled team, this team is the best I’ve ever played with, the core has been there together for a couple of years now and I believe there only going to get better

Seeing dean cheesy and Kirk (Riccall number 1 fan) run naked through a load of fountains at 3 in the morning in the middle of December in Leeds and then sitting on them and breaking the pipes. The fountains dint get up and running again for another 3 years

I don’t think anyone is underrated but having played with Dave Barber a bit I don’t think sometimes he gets the credit he deserves

1. Paul, what has been your greatest moment at Riccall thus far?
My greatest Riccall moment to date would have to be last season winning promotion and the cup win! The games towards the end of the season were awesome and the unbeatable mentality we had created made us a strong team for anyone!
2. And your worst to date?
It has to be blowing the title the season before with the first team! without a doubt the deserved champions but too many silly mistakes cost us! Hopefully the players and managers have learned from that and won't ever repeat it!
3. What are your predictions for the coming season?
I feel that maintaining our place in Reserve B will be great! However I feel that if we show the attitude we had for the friendly against the first team in every game, then anything is possible! I hope to see the first team challenging for promotion, I feel the larger squad this year can help that!
4. Who do you see as our biggest rivals and competition for the coming season?
Hard to say really, dont know much about Reserve B, as we've been in C for so long, but im sure York RI will be a good match again and possibly Poppleton!
5. Who would be your room mate at the club and why?
My room mate at the club would probably be Buggy! I'm his neighbour so I'm used to the little sh*%!! Anyone but AP really, he's like a sleeping bulldozer!

Cous Cous and Tuna about 2hr before, then a Banana and Lucozade nearer the kick-off!

Its very close between Minto and Liam! A faded black Lacoste top or a shit t-shirt made out of tissue with built in bee stings!

Once again close between minto and AC! Liam would be there again but he cant help his they choose there's!

I have many Louis Shaha, Ole Gunnar Paul-Shah, Shary Litmanen, Edwin Van Der Shah, Shary, Tricks, Athlete, and dean used to call me P.E at school ( I thought it was cos i was athletic bit it stood for Pie Eater!)

That once was true my friend, you did help me out a few years ago with a certain busty brunette in kans, but now me and cuz sit back and let you guys stand a chance!
12. Of all the players in the United squad, who do you think is the most influential?
In the current squad I have always respected Stan! he gives 110% every session and every game he can play around a very busy schedule!
13. Best player you've played with and why?
In my younger days it would have to be Northern and Spenner, but in recent times Big Dean, class act from a young strong clever footballer.

Kirk Jackson....he kept spewing up down the wing and I couldn't stop laughing!

Raise it!! by Stewart Winter, it become clock work now and has very little meaning!

s*&t, fcuk, w*@k , b!*%@!d!! and it used to be a favourite of Mark 'tourettes' Gardner!
17. You've been at the club quite a few years now, how do you think the club and team compare to that of when you joined all those years ago?
Both teams are in a healthy position! the first team may not be in the premier anymore but the squad is a lot better equipped should we get there again! the atmosphere at the club can sometimes be too laid back but its great the we are all good mates on and off the field!

Just recently we had a good un in york at the start of the season! bit hazy towards the end but I certainly remember my good friend Dean stripping off his clothes and bombing into the ouse, off the revouloution balcony and swimming to the other side, emerging from the water like bond, and lighting up a wet tab! big laughs, big respect, big idiot!

Featured Player No2 - Dean Westwood

1. Dean , what has been your greatest moment at Riccall thus far?
My greatest moment, which out ways any other by far, is celebrating with "Adam Shilkey" for his first & only goal for riccall united, he picked out the top locker from 8yards, fantastic!!!!
2. And your worst to date?
My worst moment was when I prepared myself for the bench against Civil Service Away, I made up a flask of tomato soup (2 tins of) & I wore my long johns. Then when Liam read out his starting '11', I was devastated to hear the name "WESTWOOD", its a moment I'll never forget!!!!
3. Can you explain to www.riccallunitedfc.com why it is that you fail to remain interested for the full season and normally just go through the motions towards the end every year to date?
This is a personnel problem I have with myself, but im hoping due to my yoga/Tai chi lessons I have had pre-season, I should be 100% committed from start to finish, but having said that if "Mr Beer" managers to have a cheeky word in my ear around Christmas time, the £1000 I have spent on the yoga/Tai chi lessons will be dead money my friend!!!. All I can do is apologise in advance if I am to stumble & fall mid season!!!
4. What are your predictions for the coming season?
Predictions are not something I like to make, as when I was 13 I predicted that, by the age of 23 I would play for Liverpool FC & have Jennifer Ellison hanging off little Dean, but instead I play for Riccall united & the only thing hanging off Little Dean is my Right hand!!! So with all that in mind, I think we will rip it up in the 1st Division this season, and we will be lifting the winners cup!!!
5. Who do you see as our biggest rivals and competition for the coming season?
I really do believe Tadcaster albion will be our biggest rivals, when we have met in the past it always leads to a gruelling battle, I would like this opportunity to speak out to the little "TAD POLES", let the battle commence!!!
6. Who would be your room mate at the club and why?
Matthew Robert Wood, as I have roomed with him quite alot recently!!!, why? because you are sure to be protected at all times with Matthew in your room. Just a few weeks back we where in Ayia Napa, he had to save my life one morning, if it wasn't for him the ceiling would have wiped me out, thanks Matthew!!!
7. What is your favourite pre-match meal?
On a Saturday its very rare that I surface from my stink pit before 11am, therefore my pre-match meal is actually my breakfast, so it normally consists of, mini-bix (with choc chips) & a banana, just the ticket!!!

A combination of Croc's & a sheep's coat, makes Peter Minto the worst dressed by far!!!!
Plus I don't think that boy has ever worn his own clothes to training, he is always knicking kit out of the garage!!! sort it out Pete eh!!!

Mick Carmody, I was watching him play the other day against Brassa, I thought to myself, "didn't realise the Jesus look was in???" sweet moves Carmody!!!
10. What do you feel you bring to the club?
Every Saturday I bring a little prick called "Dean Westwood" to the club, enough said!!!!!
11. What is your nickname and why?
Bambino, as everyone knows my brother is half Cuban, well I'm actually half Spanish hence the name, Deano Bambino!!!
12. You are generally thought of as the dressing room joker, what to date is the funniest thing you've ever seen at the club?
There's always daft things going on in the dressing room, especially amongst the "shower crew", by the way, the "shower crew" always welcomes new crew members throughout the season, so get stripped off and join in the team bonding sessions!!!
A few things that comes to mind, shower hand stands, 1hr mud fights with cheesy & minto, & of course when George got taken off his feet, due to 'Grant Saker' smashing a volley at his head from 6 yards out, let that be a lesson to all, if Grant is 6 yards away from goal, make sure your not behind the net like George was, because grant is guaranteed to put the ball anywhere else but in the back of the net!!!!

The most influential to me is my Gaffer 'Liam Bradley', when I look at him on the side line with his kite out, I think poor lad, this guy here in front of my eyes used to be a top class defender, but now he is nothing but a "Has-Been", so every time I feel like throwing the towel in I look at him with utter pity and think to myself, I never want to be a "Has-Been", and I get stuck back in!!!! Thanks Liam for being the best ever role model!!!! But seriously we all love him!!!!!!!!
14. Best player you've played with and why?
Very hard to pick one player, as I have played with a lot of good players over the years & the team we have this season is full of great players!!!! although if you mean in the showers then that's whole different ball game!!!

Irish Pete, the name kind of sums it up!!! Bless him!!!
16. What's your worst football "shout out" on the pitch?
"Get your heads on!!!" As if we are all running around like headless monsters, what a kak saying!!!

"The referee's my dad!!!", I've heard Steve Morton shout this on several occasions, good work Graham Norton!!!!

1. Pete, what has been your greatest moment at Riccall thus far?
Winning the Player's Player of the year 2006/2007. Its a honour to win this from the lads.
2. And your worst to date?
Getting beat every week when we was playing in the premier league a few years back.
3. Is it true in the 2003/2004 season you went the entire season without scoring a goal whilst playing striker for the club? Please set the record straight!
In my defence, we had a poor team and it didn't help when I was the only one upfront nearly all season and we was playing teams that were thrashing us. No excuse really.
4. What are your predictions for the coming season?
Top 3. Maybe even win the league. We have a better squad and players improving every season. It's looking very good for us.
